VETO
The right to stop government when it's wrong.

About The VETO Movement

The VETO is currently just an idea, but the goal is for it to become a political party with a single policy...

If you agree with the VETO, please spread the word, it's unfunded, grass-roots, and it's a simple idea that anyone can take forward, so it needs no "leader".

The Right To Say No!

We claim the right to reject the product of government, the same as we have the right to return any faulty product.

The Simplest Solution

The VETO is the simplest way to make government more representative and accountable.

It does not require any up-front change to any existing legislation, or any of the current systems of governance.

It does not change systems of voting, or the principle of representation. It does not change what MPs or the civil service do.

There has been a discussion about moving to a "proportional representation" system, to improve representation, but the VETO is a far simpler (and better) solution.

"Perverse Incentives"

If you order a pizza delivery, but they arrive with a curry, you have the right to refuse to pay, and send it back...

If you elect a political-party on a manifesto promise, but they deliver the opposite of their promise, you currently have no way to refuse their product.

So government has no incentive to deliver what you ordered, other than the vague-threat of being "voted out in a few years, maybe".

Imagine if Amazon, or any business, operated like this...

You might order a bicycle for your daughter, at £69.99, but you'd have no guarantee that's what you'd get.
They might send you a £50Bn Cross-Rail project instead, and you'd have to pay up.

The problem at the heart of government is: Unaccountability.

Judging The Morality Of Government

We employ government to uphold morality, reason and fairness, because these are our standards, and this is our custom.

The people have every right to judge their government, because they are our employees, and morality is the standard we judge by, not legality.

Government can decide what's legal or illegal, that's it's expertise, but we the people decide what's right or wrong, and the law of morality is the supreme-law.

The people have the right to judge government actions on the grounds of morality alone.

The Right To VETO: By Legally-Binding Petition

The British people need a way to quickly stop unpopular government policies.

Protests are not effective enough, and they're generally inconvenient for everyone.
